Janet Z. Capua woke up one spring morning in 2008 and decided she was ready for a change. At 63 years old, and after 40 years as a dental hygienist, she decided to pursue her true passion in life…
She was known in Fort Worth for her cooking. Once, after hearing that 100 international student visitors were hungry, she cooked all night long, packed the car, and arrived in time to serve breakfast!
With the help of a few good friends, Janet launched her own home-based catering business, literally going door to door to sell sandwiches and salads. December 2008 would be the turning point, as she partnered with Samaritan House to open Z’s Café in the Fort Worth Community Arts Center.
Janet would cook, son Carlo would run the business, and residents and caretakers from Samaritan House would join the team, learning food and service skills while returning to the workforce with dignity. The response has been overwhelming.
